Code of ethics of the fff, association of professionals practicing family therapy
FFF IS A NON PROFIT ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONALS PRACTICING FAMILY THERAPY IN ICELAND.
Principle 1.
The cornerstone of family therapy is respect for the dignity and individuality of each individual and each family and the advancement of human rights.
Principle 2.
Family therapists reflect the humanistic principles of honesty and are respectful towards their clients. They promote an atmosphere of mutual trust.
Principle 3.
Family therapists accept responsibility and the consequences of his or her professional actions. They are committed to working in the best interest of their clients and to protect their welfare.
Principle 4.
The goal of family therapy is to increase the quality of life of each individual and family, to strengthen effective communication and independence and, to enhance their clients ability to engage in and work through their own problems.
Principle 5.
Family therapists respect and safeguard the confidences of each individual and family. If a professional becomes aware that a client is a danger to himself or others then he/she shall inform the appropriate person or authority according to law and where disclosure of confidential information is legally required
Principle 6.
Family therapists provide only services that they are qualified to provide and work within the boundaries of their training and experience. They maintain high standards of professionalism and integrity and are responsible for maintaining their professional development for the benefit of their clients.
Principle 7.
Family therapists do not use their clients for their own personal gain and insure that their clients do not become dependent on them or the services they provide in any way.
Principle 8.
Family therapists do not enter into sexual relationships their clients.
Principle 9.
Family therapists shall not be under the influence of alcohol or other chemicals that diminish their attention or reasoning capacity.
Principle 10.
Family therapists promote trust in family therapy and do nothing to diminish the publics attitude towards the profession.
Principle 11.
Family therapists promote trusting professional relationships with their colleagues and respect the rights and responsibilities of each other.
Principle 12.
Members of the FFF maintain good professional and cooperative relationships with therapists in other professional associations that work towards the wellbeing of individuals and families.
Principle 13.
The Ethics committee consists of three members of the FFF. The committee reviews complaints against members of the FFF and reviews the code of ethics regularly.
Principle 14.
If a member of the FFF violates his professional duties and Code of ethics it is possible to inform the ethics committee who sends their evaluation of the complaint to the Board to decide if further action on behalf of the association is called for.
Principle 15.
The Ethics committee insures confidentiality on all matters that the committee receives.
